Raquel joined Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision in the fall of 2019. At Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision, the small and mighty team works on improving air quality by gathering truck traffic data, developing clean energy projects, and working with fleet project partners to implement low to zero-emitting vehicles through grant-funded purchasing projects. SDEV advocates for better ordinances that protect people from emissions and dust. Raquel works on community outreach and engagement projects that connect residents with SDEV's projects and other neighborhood partner resources.

She serves on the DTE's Community Advisory Committee, the Wayne County Sustainability Advisory Group, the Ecology Center's Air Sensor Learning Collaborative Steering Committee, the Statewide Michigan Water Table and the Statewide Air Quality Coalition, Clear The Air and sits on the Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation and Michigan Environmental Council's board. Raquel is an Environmental Leadership Program 2020 Fellow. She is passionate about leadership development in the youth of Southwest Detroit, working on policy and ordinances that work for residents, and connecting to the residents of Southwest Detroit. In her spare time, she works with a network of wildlife rehabbers to rescue orphaned raccoons.
