Win Federal Funding for Electric Mobility in Your Community

A Workshop for Local Governments and Their Partners
May 15, 2023 — Portland, Oregon

The federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) have created over $100 billion in new funding programs in the last 18 months that can help drive transportation electrification efforts. These funds can help communities increase mobility options, reduce transportation costs, create jobs and economic opportunities, reduce air pollution, meet their climate goals, and more. However, these programs are complex, overlapping, and fast-moving, and transportation electrification itself is a new and fast moving field. State and local governments and community stakeholders are scrambling to understand how best to take advantage of these opportunities.

In this workshop, Forth will convene diverse experts from across the electric mobility ecosystem to help communities make the best use of these various programs and funds, particularly competitive grant funds, to quickly and effectively drive electrification of personal transportation in ways that center the needs of historically underserved communities.

This workshop will be held in conjunction with the industry-leading Roadmap Conference, offering participants a further opportunity to deepen their understanding and relationships with potential partners.

Key Learning Objectives

Participants will leave this one day workshop with a better understanding of:

  • Where to start: strategies for assessing community needs, building partnerships, and leveraging diverse funding streams
  • How to center equity in transportation electrification work to meet Justice40 objectives and achieve better outcomes
  • How to access current and planned federal funding programs
  • Where to find additional resources and assistance

While our primary focus will be on electrifying personal mobility, this workshop will also help prepare participants to pursue funding for electrifying medium and heavy duty vehicles and freight.

Audience
The primary audiences for this workshop include:

  • State, local, and tribal government representatives interested in advancing charging and transportation electrification efforts
  • Community based organizations working to promote clean affordable mobility
  • Partners in this work, including electric utilities, charging companies, vehicle manufacturers, environmental advocates, labor organizations, consulting firms, and others
  • Private philanthropic partners interested in helping communities leverage federal funds

About Forth and Workshop Faculty

Forth is a nonprofit organization with a mission to electrify transportation by bringing people together to create solutions that reduce pollution and barriers to access. Founded in 2011, Forth’s diverse experience includes providing technical and outreach assistance to communities and states; designing and executing dozens of hands-on projects, from e-bike education and electric carsharing in historically underserved communities to creating of the nation’s first brand neutral mobile EV showroom to support public education events. Forth has also won and managed several multi-million dollar federal grants and is providing training, templates, and hands-on support to help communities submit their own funding applications. Forth believes that centering the needs of those with the greatest barriers produces better outcomes for all, and is committed to centering equity in all our work.

This workshop will be held in conjunction with Forth’s Roadmap Conference, the nation’s premier electric transportation conference. Faculty will be drawn from Forth staff, federal and local government, and leading private and nonprofit organizations nationwide.
